The Gibraltar National Museum is proud to host the international premiere of The Last Traces of the Neanderthal on Wednesday, 2nd September, at 6:30pm.

The event, in collaboration with Gibraltar Cultural Services, will be a special red-carpet occasion bringing together scientists, cultural representatives, and invited guests to celebrate the launch of a documentary that offers a fresh perspective on the life of Neanderthals of southern Europe. The film explores how coastal environments of southern Iberia, including Gibraltar, played a crucial role in Neanderthal survival and challenged long-held assumptions about their way of life.

Featuring research and discoveries from Gibraltar, mainly from the Gorham’s Cave Complex UNESCO World Heritage Site, the documentary highlights the important contribution that Gibraltar continues to make to our understanding of human evolution. Interviews with members of the Gibraltar research team and striking visual reconstructions bring this fascinating story to life.

The Minister for Heritage, the Honourable John Cortes, said, 'Following its successful Spanish premiere earlier this year, Gibraltar has been selected as the location for the documentary's international launch, reinforcing the Rock's status as one of the world's most significant Neanderthal research sites.

'This work, apart from its scientific excellence, has raised Gibraltar’s profile in the academic world and among the many people interested in the human story globally. This film will go even further, and it is particularly significant that it should be launched here on the Rock of the Neanderthals on this most significant year.'

Free tickets for this premiere will be available as from Monday 24th August at www.eventbrite.com. For further information please contact GCS Cultural Development Unit on +350 20041839 or email development@culture.gov.gi.
